You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
(Psalm 23:5)

God will give you His peace even in the midst of your enemies. The Prince of Peace will be with you and your family.

The Bible says that there are evil and unrighteous people in this world (2 Thessalonians 3:2).

We read that King David lived among such people (Psalm 57:4,6). Not only in the days of David, even in the days of Jesus Christ. In John 12:19 we read that the Pharisees said among themselves, “Look, the world has gone after Him.” This statement reveals the magnitude of jealousy they had on Jesus. The Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk (Matthew 22:15). On the one hand the people sought Him with thirst for their needs. On the other hand these evil men followed Him to trap Him in some snare or other. Such people are living even today in our midst.

Many years ago I read a moving incident. A certain police officer was childless for many years. So he adopted his own brother’s son. Years passed, the wife of this police officer conceived, she gave birth to a boy baby. Everybody were very happy. They brought up the child with great love and care. When the boy was three years old, all of a sudden the boy expired! Someone had killed the innocent little fellow. The whole family were in great sorrow. Nobody could console the parents! They experienced a bitter and unbearable lamentation. When they investigated and identified the murderer, it was none other than the boy whom the police officer had adopted. When they questioned him, He said, “I was the proprietor of all the wealth, but when the child was born I thought that I could not possess all the property. So, I killed the baby boy.” What a wicked world!

The Lord knows very well that you live in the midst of such unrighteous people and among the problems they cause you through their evil designs. That’s why God has sent His only beloved Son to this world as the Prince of Peace. Jesus Christ knows the path you pass through. He is very much aware that you have lost your peace due to the wickedness of these people. So, the Lord God, the Prince of Peace will offer you his peace.

Even in His own family our Lord Jesus Christ experienced these miseries. His own brothers did not have faith in Him! They mocked Him and advised Him to go into Judea and perform miracles there! (John7:3-5). There were wicked persons in His own household! He tasted the bitter death on the cross only to deliver you and give you His peace!

When we meditate on the life of David we would observe that God did not leave Him to suffer in the midst of wicked people, all his life. But we find that the Lord God whom David trusted, lifted him up and exalted him in the presence of his enemies(Psalm 23:5). Not only his own people, but even people he had not known honoured him and served him (2 Samuel 22:44).

Dear friend, Jesus had gone through the path of suffering already for you. And God did not leave David in the midst of the wicked people. So, don’t be dismayed, God will be with you and give you His peace even in the midst of the wicked people who encircle you.

Prayer:

Precious Lord Jesus Christ,

I thank You for You had gone through the path of suffering already for me. You have exalted and lifted up David in the presence of his enemies. In the same way, lift me up and fill me with Your divine peace in the midst of the enemies who encircle me. May I always walk in the path of righteousness and trust Your ever loving kindness.

All praise, glory and honour belong to You alone.

Amen.
